Thoughts on Pollock
-Pretty much got bumped up on my queue because this Reel Insight episode. So.
-A hardcore biopic of Jackson Pollock, the guy who, to this day, eggs on rich art students with carpal tunnel. Starring and directed by Ed Harris, with Marcia Gay Harden as his long-suffering wife Lee. Some Val Kilmer here, some Jennifer Connolly there, mostly in negligible parts.
-Shit, this guy was a dick at the end there.
-A fantastic biopic that foregoes any sentiment towards it's main character in favor of actual storytelling, picking and choosing where to pick up in his life (thankfully cutting out any shots to when he was a kid).

Ooo... you're making me want to see it. The closest I came was hearing some residual dialogue when my brother was watching it in the next room. I seem to recall a lot of shouting and expletives... :)
Luke, see this because Marcia Gay Harden is freakin' amazing here. One of the last decade's biggest surprises (and one of its most deserved wins).
Simon that last line of yours is flashing me back to RAY, just when you're supposed to "get" the message they flashback to when he was a child just so you could understand a bit more. Ugh.
Yup. Harris does nothing to sugar-coat Jackson Pollock. He makes him seem every bit as bipolar and self-serving and hateful -- and, unfortunately, talented -- as he was in real life.
Harris is a fine director, as well as a damn good actor. Check out his western some time—odd, quirky, and a different way of speaking. A lot of the time, I use the Pollock soundtrack in the background when writing LNTAM.
Simon - Glad we inspired something with that episode! It really is a pretty amazing movie, with a pretty strong asshole at its core, but watching him actually create a new movement in art is engrossing.
I need to see this.
A very encouraging review. I didn't know who Pollack was before I watched the documentary, Who the F**k is Jackson Pollack?, I would recommend it a watch.
Ed Harris really needs to work more. The man is a legend.
