Thoughts on Ed Wood

--Go, Martin Landau! Seriously, say what you will, but you can't deny the awesomeness of him as Bela Lugosi, portraying the flamboyant onscreen persona and the the erratic, troubled offscreen one.

--On that note, what the hell is he doing lately?

--I love how this movie, and, indeed, all Wood productions, are the true definition of 'ragtag bunch of misfits band together to make something of themselves'. It's kind of inspiring. Seriously, I would totally get baptised to make Plan 9From Outer Space.

--On the bonus features, Johnny Depp introduces the scene they are/were about to shoot, the strip tease scene. Many things shocked me about this: Depp's talking normally, not all flyin' and mumbly and weird, like a real bloody person, which I know he is, but really. He's funny, not really surprising, but in a different way. He speaks with such naivete about Burton, calling him a 'swell guy', how this is their second film together, the second where he played a character named Ed. We get some shots of Burton behind the camera, looking, also, like a human being, hair not as scraggly, skinny, no crazay salt-n-peppa beard. This is all very sudden. I question what I have previously known about the duo.

--"Fuck you! Karloff does not deserve to smell my shit!"

--

That guy in the background? That's Tim Burton. Soak it in.

--Despite what I've heard, about how Ed Wood pretty much used Bela Lugosi, I don't think so. I mean, I know movies aren't jack shit to go by, but in this movie, the relationship is so affectionate, without ever being gay at all (then, we have Bill Murray's Bunny taking care of that). It'd really suck if, by some turn of events, i found out Wood was really sucking Lugosi dry. That'd suck balls, okay?

--I like black and white better than color, I think. Was, I wonder, that comment about the production guy being color blind when Loretta King asks which dress looks better (green or white, something like that), was maybe meta-referencing the style of production. I like to think so.

--Sarah Jessica Parker does have a horse face.

You say: "Lugosi, portraying the flamboyant onscreen persona and the the erratic, troubled offscreen one".

I agree, I think this is often the case with many stars, past and present. They sometimes struggle to be people off screen, they often don't know who they really are, hide in the characters, and are tempted with drugs etc. Just look at golfer tiger woods, everyone thought he was this perfect star, but he couldn't live up to the hype and unrealistic expectations.

'dan the man' reviewed ed wood recently, where I left my thoughts on ed wood and plan 9

Here's Landau interview about ed wood + plus related videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aY6cdOmDsuI

You say you prefer black and white, any reason??

I agree, Sarah Jessica Parker is not really attractive, all the make up and surgery in the world won't make her a beauty! But I think women are drawn to her maybe for this reason, as she often plays emotionally flawed characters (sex and the city obviously comes to mind)

Black and white, I think, looks better. I like the whole feel, basically.
