My humble thoughts on the epic Black Swan trailer

You've all seen it by now. The gorgeous cinematography. The Clint Mansell score, lots of strings, just the way scores should be (oh, shut up, percussions) (or, I hope that's his music. If they pull an Inception...). The make-y out-y-ness of Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman, two of my favorite young actresses (even though Kunis is still on probabtion for fucking Max Payne ). The ballerina-iness, a mostly ignored genre in recent years (I like to think it's no coincidence that Natalie Portman's been up for a Suspiria remake. If they must make one, they could do worse than her). Psychological horror by directors, not for-hire guys, is always the best kind, and this has Darren Aronofsky, bitches.

I present to you, my dears, some highlights.

This made me cringe. As this guy said, she's splintering. Oh, dear.

Why must all movies about the mental disintegration/torture of idealistic young women involve heartbreaking and uncomfortable (what might be, because I doubt Aronofsky would just throw in some random bit of fanservice. I mean, he must have some point to it, yes?) female masturbation? Mulholland Dr. did it, at the top of my head. That could be the only example. Never mind.

This is cool.

This freaks me the fuck out.

In conclusion, poor Natalie Portman.

Also in it, Barbara Hershey, Winona Ryder. I have something to live for again.

Oh man - must you pick out the creepiest shots from the trailer? I'm so prepared for a "Requiem trackmarks amputation" -esque moment in this movie after seeing that first picture.

This was a very intriguing trailer and I'll certainly see it. For some reason I can't really stand Aronofsky, but the guy makes some pretty awesome films. I have the same deal with Tarantino. Nice shout-out on the score here too. Should be a good one and Portman looks perfectly cast.

BTW, I always see Ripley on Anamolous and thought I'd FINALLY get around to check out your site. It's terrific! I bookmarked and will comment/read often from now on. Sorry it took me so long to get on board.

Everything about this gets me really amped for this to hit theaters. I think if nothing else, this sort of proves that Darren can take on any material he wishes and regardless of how banal it sounds on a first glance, he will inevitably make it into something exciting, fresh, and worth checking out.

What really will put my ass in a seat for this is Portman, though. She hasn't done anything really challenging or gripping since Closer, that I can remember anyways.

I am deeply freaked out by this trailer, the psychological weirdness, the mila kunis weirdness, the implications that she's going to turn into some sort of fucking SWAN BEAST. It looks amazing!

Luke: I'm rooting for the old Kafka-metamorphasis deal. I can't handle another Requiem for a Dream scene, I really can't.

Peter: Why, thank you, good sir. And I you (...)

agrump: Even Closer, she was still playing the precocious little girl. Close with Brothers, though.

Sugary: Swans aren't Beasts, silly person. She'll simply be She-Swan. Swan feathers and beak and wings, but all on a human body!

So, yes, it will be a Swan Beast.
